The Holy Spirit

“Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven ….. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.  All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit.”

(Acts 2 v 2-4)

PRAYER:

Dear God, I ask for your help to direct my way in life through your Holy Spirit.  Help me to understand your direction for me, and give me the confidence to trust that your direction is always the best way for me to go. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

PAUSE FOR THOUGHT:

The giving of the Holy (God’s) Spirit to the disciples is often referred to as the birth of the Christian church.  It is called Pentecost and is celebrated 7 weeks, after the resurrection (Easter Sunday).  Pentecost day is also known as Whitsun, or Whit Sunday.  Why do you think we still have a bank holiday at the end of May to commemorate something that happened around 2000 years ago?

FUN FACT:

The windiest place on earth is Antarctica. The fastest wind recorded there was 199mph!  However, on Barrow island (Australia) on 10th April 1996 the record for the strongest ever wind was set at 253mph (source W.M.O)
