Covid 19 update: The church is closed until further notice.
During the Prime Minister's latest news conference, a clear and immediate concern was raised regarding recent developments in the mutation of the coronavirus and its ability to spread more rapidly and easily. This follows reports in the press of real concerns among a number of medical experts that the restrictions currently in place may not be sufficiently stringent to control the spread of the virus.
Given that we have had precious little time to reflect on our options, I have conferred with as many circuit leaders as possible. Whilst acknowledging that there have been no further announcements from HMG regarding places of worship or extra precautions, I think it is the safest and wisest course to close all our circuit churches with immediate effect and until further notice.
The staff and circuit stewards will monitor the situation as it changes and confer regularly with a view to reopening churches at the earliest opportunity once the increased threat of transmission has receded sufficiently according to our understanding of official advice.
I hope that everyone will understand that we are taking this decision very reluctantly, but the wellbeing of our church families must be our primary concern.
Please continue to pray for one another and for all those who suffer the effects of the virus, both medically and economically.
Revd. Andrew Burrows
